Day 37: Van Horn, TX to Fort Hancock, TX

The wind that persisted yesterday has thankfully died down so today was a much easier ride. Fairly boring though. We continued on the Interstate frontage road for the first 35 miles until Sierra Blanca.

More abandoned buildings
I think I hit the 2000 mile mark today.

Down to the Rio Grande. Hi Mexico.

We contacted Liz and Alice's brother Street who has a ranch in Fort Hancock. He's put us up in the sports hall of the local church. I've set up the air mattress on the stage.

Chicken fried steak for dinner at the local cafe. It had to be done. Supposedly analogous to fried chicken, but with a steak! Tasted bloody appalling. I know British food still has an unwarranted bad rep, but this meal was straight from the depths of the 1970s. A salad bowl of unadorned iceberg lettuce, 1 hour boiled green beans, a claggy mess of gravy. Terrible stuff.

Not a great deal to report on today. Night y'all.
